This book was amazing and has me in his grip. In addition, the Kosiners are family as well, so it is even more moving. It is so fascinating how your parents kept rebuilding their lives every time. Did you ever research what happened to the Lawyer Mr Berger who saved your mothers live after he was arrested? Is there a memorial for him in Yad Vashem?

I have just finished reading this book. The powerful story was so gripping, it was if I was there. You never read in history books about the Jews escaping the Nazis to Shangia. Let us never forget....things like this should never happen. No matter what your beliefs are.

I've read many accounts of World War II and the Holocaust-not just because I too am Jewish but because since I was born in the mid 1950's here in the United States (and my family had been here for a few generations but was originally from Vienna too) little was talked about those times for many, many years. It wasn't until I grew up and started reading about it on my own and became interested in some first hand accounts of those times after visiting Yad Vishem (in Israel) that I truly began to understand the depth of the experiences our people had been through-or as much as anyone who had never been exposed to that kind of horrific traumatic experience one can imagine...

Your book is an amazing work of art, not just transporting us there with you and your family but I felt as if I could smell the streets, the foods, the people, the wonderful sites and sounds from Vienna to Shanghai to Toronto. What a wonderful gift you have-and when I finished "Ten Green Bottles" I immediately got on my computer hoping to find you had written a sequel telling the story of what happened once the family was reunited in Canada.

Personally, you are such a wonderful story teller I would love to read anything you write, so I am hoping to see more in the future... ibut this work was particularly spellbinding and

This read was very touching and I felt an unsurpassed strength from the words written. Your mother was a very strong women, as well as your father. I am still astounded by mans cruelty towards humanity. Thank you for this journey.

I loved reading this book as it is a tremendous story. But also, I had 3 uncles who fled Europe and ended in Shanghai. My mother and all her sisters (7 in all) were all born in Shanghai, during the 20's. My brothers were born in Shanghai, about the same time as you, and I was born in Hong Kong. We moved to Montreal about the same time as your family (early 50's)but one of my uncles moved to Richmon Hill. There are so many similarities, it was almost like reading a story of our family. But written better than any of us ever could have. Many thanks for a great story.

I saw the new play based on "Ten Green Bottles" on Sunday and thought that it presented an excellent expose on the actual novel itself. The novel is not an intellectual expression, but instead, is a journey or quest that ends happily in the trip to Canada. Likewise, the play enbodies the music, radio broadcasts from that era, dance and other symbolic momentos that capture all that the book attempts to recreate. Even the lack of scenery and the use of movable walls, tend to express the terror, sadness, joy and retribution of the on-stage characters without any other material formats. Hope this play continues the same way it was presented here in Toronto and sent to other cities, where a new reborn anti-semitism seems to be in a state of rebirth with the newer and historically ignorant generation of our young people

Thank you for writing this most wonderful book. Both of my parents were from Vienna too and shared similar experiences as Nini Karpel did. This book touched my heart.

I have never read a book that affected me in the way that this one did. Your parents so were incredibly brave. I am so glad they were able to attain a happy ending.

Thank you for writing this wonderful book.

Ten Green Bottles is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read. A friend who borrowed my copy of the book said "I've already cried three times and I haven't even finished the first chapter". Thank you for this book!
